Gabourey Sidbie breaks her silence in the midst of Mo’Nique and Lee Daniel’s back-and-forth over Mo being blackballed from Hollywood. Find out what she said and get the highlights of Kanye West’s lecture at Oxford University inside….
As Mo’Nique and Lee Daniels conduct interviews about the Oscar winning actress being blackballed from Hollywood, one star from the film Precious is speaking out.
"Empire" star Gabourey Sidibe (who starred as Precious in the film) took to her Twitter today to address the drama unfolding between Mo’nique and director Lee Daniels. Mo and Lee have been going back-in-forth in interviews over Mo'nique being blackballed from the industry after winning the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role in Precious.
Hmm...so who is she saying is lying? Mo or Lee? One of them still signs her checks so....
We broke down what Mo’nique told CNN’s Don Lemon about not necessarily being “blackballed” from the industry, but instead low balled. While chatting with Don, she responded the “demands” Lee Daniels claimed she requested that caused folks in Hollywood to turn their backs on her. She revealed there were no demands. She said she was paid $50K to do the film and when the studio asked her to fly to the Cannes Film Festival to do promotions (at her own expense), she declined.
In a new interview with “Good Morning America,” Mo says she believes Lee hinted at her being difficult because she didn’t give thanks to the producers during her Oscar acceptance speech. She explained,
“He said, ‘You know, there were things that, Mo'Nique, she didn’t thank the producers and she didn’t thank the studio. And that’s just not things that you do,’” she recounted. “Well, it had nothing to do with the producers nor the studio. Mr. Daniels had a problem that I didn’t say his name the night of the Oscars awards.”
Kanye West is still overseas in the UK. And today, he traveled to Oxford University Museum of Natural History to deliver a speech to college students apart of the Oxford Guild Society about a number of things.
Following the release of his new track "All Day," Yeezy (spotted above leaving his hotel en route to the university) stood before students today (banning all cellphones) to let them in a little more about who Kanye West is and what is current thoughts are. He discussed how Nicki Minaj was the best thing to happen to his 2010 My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album, he talked about comparing himself to legendary figures (i.e. Pablo Picasso), how the film The Matrix being the new Bible for the post-information age and how classism is today's biggest problem.
Below are the highlights:
On Nicki Minaj:
“One of the most memorable things about MBDTF was Nicki Minaj, and the fact that she kicked my ass, on my own song, on one of the best albums…the best album – I’m just saying what the critics said – of the last 25 years. The best album of the past 25 years that I spent a year and a half making, out there. I was exiled from my country, it was a personal exile, but exile. To come back and deliver my magnum opus of a work, and to be outshined…to be beat by a girl, basically.
On comparing himself to iconic figures
“My goal, if I was going to do art, fine art, would have been to become Picasso or greater. That always sounds so funny to people, comparing yourself to someone in the past that has done so much, and in your life you’re not even allowed to think that you can do as much. That’s a mentality that suppresses humanity.
On The Matrix being the "new" Bible:
“What I said was The Matrix is like the Bible of the post-information age. I compared it like, when the hundred guys come at Neo, those are opinions, that’s perception, that’s tradition. Attacking people from every which angle possible. If you have a focus wide and master senseis like Laurence Fishburne and you have a squad behind you, you literally can put the world in slow motion."
“That idea [racism], has passed. We’ve had The Cosby Show, Obama’s president, Beyonce’s great…that’s passed. But there’s still something you’re taught every day, especially in the UK, and that’s division by class. Our main focus, in my opinion…Imagine a world with no war, and imagine if everyone’s main focus, more so than going out to a club, their main focus was to help someone else.
On clothing costing too much money: “It’s illegal to not wear clothes, and also possibly too cold. That means someone is imposing an idea on you that should legally have to do! Clothing should be like food. There should never be a $5000 sweater. You know what should cost $5000? A car should be $5000. And you know who should work on the car? The people that work on the $500,000 cars. All the best talent in the world needs to work for the people. And I am so f*cking serious about this concept that I will stand in front of anyone and fight for it. Because I was 14 and middle class. I know what it felt like to not get what I have."
Nick Young spit some tough talk on Twitter today after an ESPN commentator dissed his girlfriend Iggy Azalea. See his tweets inside and watch Nicki Minaj shut down her social media fight with Christina Milian.
LA Lakers star Nick Young has a serious problem with "SportsCenter" anchor Robert Flores. This morning, during his "What Did We Learn?” segment, Robert fired shots at BOTH Nick and Iggy. It seems like Rob was gunning for Nick...but Iggy got caught in the crossfire. He said,
“And what did we learn? We learned that according to the Lakers’ Nick Young, a dolphin recently tried to kill him. So, Nick, while dolphins are trying to kill you, your girlfriend is trying to kill hip-hop. Let’s call it even, OK?”
When Nick heard about the diss, he hit Twitter and had some harsh words for Rob. In fact....Rob should be watching his back right (read from the bottom up).
In later tweets, Nick spelled out how upset he was and issued a light threat....
Oooooh. Between "we got a problem" and "we going to run into each other soon", we suspect Rob will be formulating some type of passive-aggressive Twitter apology soon. Swaggy P seems serious...
In other social media spats...
The ladies of Young Money, Nicki Minaj and Christina Milian engaged in a light shade fest on social media, all because of the pop culture catch phrase #prettyonfleek. You'll recall that Nicki used the phrase on her Beyoncé-assisted single "Feeling Myself," on the line "Kitty on fleek, pretty on fleek/Pretty gang, always keep them niggas on geek."
Then Christina jumped in the mix with “Pretty On Fleek” t-shirts and sweaters from her WeArePopCulture.com line.
Nicki threw a little shade at Christina over the weekend (see the spat here) but all is well between the two ladies now. Nicki got the last word, settling the situation with a good natured "All good babe."
We love to see our celebs behave nicely. In other Nicki Minaj news, she and her "Anaconda" dancers are gearing up to tour overseas with Trey Songz for “The Pinkprint” tour, kicking off March 16th in Sweden.

In music notes, Sevyn Streeter trekked home to Haines City, Florida to receive the key to the city while Ludacris released the cover art to his upcoming Ludaversal album. Also, Wale dropped a new track with Usher titled "The Matrimony." Get it all inside…
R&B songstress Sevyn Streeter returned to her roots this weekend for a very good reason. The “Don’t Kill the Fun” singer was in her hometown of Haines City, Florida to be honored with the key to the city for her accomplishments thus far in the music industry.
Sevyn’s family friends and fans came out to support and congratulate the young singer as Haines City Mayor H.L. Roy Tyler presented her with the official key to the city. Nice.
Along with the key to the city, the "It Won't Stop" singer made her rounds, visiting her grandmother's home and making a stop at the "corner store" she frequently visited as a child.

Today, he released the cover art to his upcoming eighth studio album LUDAVERSAL, expected to drop March 31st.
For the visual, Luda creatively displays his life coming full circle, going from riding around in 93’ Acura (which he still owns and drives) to traveling the skies in his own private jet. Hmm…we’re wondering if this is actually a jet he owns, considering he was telling a child support court judge that he had limited funds. But, that’s another story.
While on vacay with his wife, Luda officially kicked off the countdown to his new album's release. And according to the ATL rapper, this album will NOT disappoint. He said it will be something his fans can appreciate from beginning to end, with a few hilarious skits.
Just before dropping his new LP, The Album About Nothing, Wale teams with R&B crooner Usher, for the Jake One and DJ Khalil-produced single "The Matrimony." Wale's new album is expected to come out March 31st as well. Take a listen to his newest musical offering above.
