In my opinion, I believe it's for a few reasons. One reason is that some people have become so complacent in their situations that they don't want better neither do they see a need to go out and obtain better. Another reason is that some people don't believe they can obtain better and they don't have confidence in themselves to obtain better, so as a result they settle for less than what they can actually have. Then there are those people who are just flat out lazy and just don't want to put in the hard work, time, and dedication required to make a better life for themselves. As a result, they will forever be dependent upon someone else to make things happen for them. That's a sad way to live if you ask me. The one thing I hate is for someone to have children and still not do what it takes to make things better in their lives. If you're not going to do it for yourself, at least think about your children and your children's children. Me being who I am I try to look at all things from a biblical standpoint and the Bible says a wise man leaves an inheritance for his children and his children's children. Think about the future, not just the present. Do you really want your children living broke, busted, and disgusted?? Do you really want your daughters to grow up learning to depend on a man to take care of her instead of her being an independent, strong woman and providing for herself? Do you really want your sons growing up thinking it's okay to not have a job and always take money from women?? Think about it......

mr.STL75, WELCOME TO THE HOOD, BRETHREN!!!!! Maannnnnnn, listen...i know cats that MAKE 6 figures and STILL are always looking for some free shit! lol!!! I know nuckas that will borrow cash, just because they dont wanna spend theirs. But for the most part, i think a lot of people just give up man...when u see a brotha/sista on the street askin for a handout, i think that thats just a defeated person mentaly, spiritually, and karmically.
Then you have those that manipulate the system! ya'll kow what im talking about! The chick with no job and 6 kids by 5 dudes that taxpayers are supporting. The perfectly healthy negroe thats on ummmm...disability?.....

when u are down and out, its easy to get trapped under the floor, SO STAY ABOVE GROUND!!!!!

If you grow around a bunch of people that "just want to get by", then 9 times out of 10, you will only want to "just get by". Those that grew up around people that did stuff on their own will more than likely try to go get their own. "Monkey see, monkey do" type of thing.

True statement....I cosign...it's about lining yourself up with the right people in life too. All them old rich cats were friends with people who put them on to shit as a youngster....Like I wish I was there when the first dude was like "I'ma buy me about 1000 shares of this Coca Cola shit...it tastes alright but I bet it's gonna be huge in the future, so fuck it I'm get me them 1000 shares at .50 cent a share and see what happens....Who's with me?"....lol I need those type of people in my life, who can see the future...so to speak....

I guess I would have to know of a particular senerio to respond to this one, but at any rate I'll touch on something Lyrical Beauty said. Sometimes there just may be a lack of confidence. Now, if we are talking about people like the dudes in the other thread that do nothing but party and play ps3 all day then that's different. Those kinds of lazy mofo's need to be court ordered to Boot Camp!!

Then there are those that simply lack the motivation, ambition, and self-confidence that it takes to succeed. It takes just a little effort to swim, but it takes alot more to stay above water.( Marinate on that one).
Sometimes, when we see someone in this kind of state we just need to give them that extra encouragement. Hell, direct them to the hood. We're family and we'll defintely give them that extra nudge. lol..
On some real shit, for some people it takes someone to get behind them and push without all the breast-feeding. NO BITCHNESS!!!
