I'm 35 and just returned to school after 18 years - for obvious and not so obvious reasons. Not only am I a bit overwhelmed with cost of an education, but the work, the reading is just incredible. I am aware of the rewards gained from an education: knowledge and honed intelligence, a chance at a better paying, more rewarding job/career, and of course the camaraderie,

however...

before I dig my eyes out with a spoon and set myself on fire Richard Pryor style, I'd like to hear about my neighbors' experiences with education.

Did you go right after high school and further your education with the career you have NOW in mind? or, are you in another field - rendering your degree almost useless? Is it worth the expense? Anyone seeking their education later in life, like myself?

Please share....especially all you undercover 'nerds'.

First of all...I MUST say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

I am 36 and will be 37 ...damn....this month, the 24th.I am currently TWO classes away from obtaining my Masters in Education and YESD...it is well worth it. When I was in N.Y. I signed my self out of school , took my GED and was enrolled in LaGaurdia Community College all at age 17. I dropped out of college at 19, had a baby, got married, blah, blah, blah...ya know the story. I am moved to Atlanta when I was 28 and returned to school when I was 30.It was a major step for me but I had a gola and that goal was to never work for anyone else as long as I live. I want to be the Chief Commander of my destiny AND show my 2 kids that you can do whatever your heart desires if you put your mind to it and work hard at it. Was it easy? Hell no....I was here alone and no fam. Did I regret the cost? Hell Yeah....BUT I had to stay focused on the Prize, Stay focused on what I call "One of my greatest accomplishments", I had to stay focused on the lesson I was teaching my kids....it cost me some paper, cost me my social life, cost me my job and it was sweat, blood and tears but DAMMIT...I am the FIRST in my entire family to hold a Bachelors degree, pursue a Masters degree, I have my own company, own my own homes, my son will be the SECOND one to graduate from College (Freshman in college this fall) and my daughter, who is 11, learned "Fuck the world, don't ask me for shit! Everything you get, you gotta work hard for it"....and I owe so much money to the government in student loans....LOLOL

No...but seriously Kisha...congratulations, do ya thing....Stay focused, it's not easy but it's not going to be the worst....it becomes less and less difficult once you get started. I did 95% of my undergraduate degree online and 100% of my Graduate degree online. I got a lot of scholarship money...the money is out there once you get that first transcript. I will help guide you to the money and whatever else I can help with...just let me know!!

CONGRAULATIONS....I soooooo proud of you!!
What school are you going to and what are you majoring in?
LOL...I'm definitely an undercover nerd....people think I'm just Jay Z, Biggie and hairpins(doobie wrap) until we start talking and I drop that knowledge on they ass...lol..I READ EVERYTHING and read ALL THE TIME..I have brains toooooooooo....lololol
As for myself..I went to college straight from high school..so I didnt have that big learning gap in between..but it still was a challenge and I had to learn things that I had never saw before..but as for you Kish it's hard but I commend you for going back to school..it is expensive as hell.but as long as you stay focused on what u want to do it will all pay off in the end..and in this market today you NEED a degree in something bcuz everything is so competitive..so girl your doin' the right thing..dont get discouraged..ur doin what alot of people are intimidated to do..girl I went to school for performing arts to become a high school drama teacher and got intimidated and became a bartender instead..wishing I had a degree that means something under my belt..so do ya thing girl...xoxo
Even though I know this post is old, I had to respond anyway. I graduated high school in '86 at the age of 19. I'm now 42 and in my sophmore year at a CUNY college. For someone who's currently not working a permanent full-time position, tuition IS expensive, and out of kindness, my dad covered two semesters. Financial Aid is a challenge to get. Once you do receive it, they don't give you alot, and we won't EEEEEEEEEEEEEEVEN talk about the cost of books. But in the long run, it'll all be worth it to walk across that stage and receive the reward that higher education offers...that degree. My brother will be 29 this year. He already holds a BS in Political Science and a Masters in Psychology. My gal-pal once told me, and it's sooooo true...the tassel is worth the hassel. In this day and age, you do need that piece of paper. Gone are the days of having a hs diploma was considered more than enough, and an Associates Degree was elite. Brooklyn's Finest said it best as have all my family and friends...you have to stay focused and not let the obstacles determine whether or not you chose to succeed. I know for a fact that if I had gone to college right out of hs, I would have flunked out, hands down. Now that I'm older, I'm more focused and I strive for A's and B's in my courses. The other upside for me...so far, I've had some really good to great professors, and they've motivated me to attend classes and try to do my best.
Big ups to your son!!!! That's the way to do it!!!!

WHAT'S BEEF: Did Chris Brown GET PISSY With Meek Mill OVER Rihanna? + Was Chris LASHING Out At Raz B For "ALLEGEDLY" Saying He's Gay?

Chris Brown is involved in a few beefs with other industry artists right now.  Get the deets on what's going on between him and Meek Mill and Raz B!

The word on the street is that Meek Mill got his verse on Chris Brown's "Don't Judge Me" dropped from the Fortune disc because Chris got pissy that Meek was hanging with Rihanna at a strip club.

Chris wasn't too pleased that Rihanna stopped by Meek Mill's party at Club Perfections last month so he bumped Meek off the disc.  Over the weekend, Meek tweeted,

We shall see how this one play's out.  But you know how pissy Chris can be......

And in other Chris beefs..........

Former B2K member Raz B has allegedly written a book called This Boy's Life.  We say allegedly because we have not been able to verify existence of the book with the publishing company or Raz B's reps.  But rumor has it that the book features explosive allegations about former B2K members (Omarion, Lil' Fizz, J Boog), Bow Wow, Ray J, Chris Stokes and Chris Brown all being gay.

On Chris the book says,

“They say you never know who knows who. Chris Brown didn’t think about that when he attacked me online. I have a friend that’s very close to Chris’ camp who told me that Chris was involved with an up and coming songwriter Andre Merritt. So when Chris started going in calling people ‘gay’ and ‘fags’ I just dropped Andre Merritt’s name. I knew it was true when he decided to shut up.”

Chris responded (his tweets were later deleted) to the alleged book saying,

If this book ever hits shelves, the fallout could be very interesting.  We'll keep you posted.

Andre 3000 FILMS Jimi Hendrix Biopic + Ne-Yo & Jamie Foxx PARTY In Las Vegas

Andre 3000 is over in Dublin filming the Jimi Hendrix biopic.  Get deets on the film and see Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx hosting a pool party in Las Vegas.

Andre Benjamin aka Andre 3000 (who celebrated his 38th birthday yesterday) began filming All Is by My Side, a Jimi Hendrix biopic, today in Dublin, Ireland.

Andre 3000 wants fans to be surprised by the film so he avoided photos so everything will be fresh when it hits the screen.

But when it hits the screen, don't expect to hear Jimi's original music.  Apparently, the estate is not on board with the biopic.  The estate released a statement saying,

"Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board have not ruled out a 'biopic' in the future though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or composition."

Andre 3000 will likely have to record covers of all Jimi songs used in the film.  But hey.....isn't that what we wanted anyway?

And in Las Vegas...........

Yesterday, Ne-Yo hosted Beach Life's Rehab Pool in the Hard Rock Hotel.

He tweeted, Chill day in my hometown Vegas, sipping @Malibu_Red at Rehab Pool. Life is good! #Compound - R.E.D 9/18/12

He also paraded around with a bevy of beauties and got the crowd hyped.

Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx was the party's other host and he also hyped the crowd.
