I feel there is a difference. What if everything we were taught growing up was not entirely accurate? What if God wants us to seek Him further without just listening to what was passed on to us from generation to generation? If you were raised to be a Baptist then all you might know and become is a Baptist, if you were raised to be Catholic, Muslim, Jew, etc. then you would know and become that. Because our mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers all believed the same thing should we believe in something simply because they did? Is that even intelligent or is that fully utilizing your mind as God intended us to use it? Is it wrong to look outside the box but still have the upmost respect and worship for the Most High God? I feel that Spirituality takes you on a journey to seek God outside of the normal religious teachings. Should believing in one aspect of God be the only one because that is all we know or all we ever studied? I am curious to know others' perspective.....

I'm more spiritual than religious. Most people grow up believing what is told to them and that is then called "fact" (to them that is...), rather than researching on their own.

Every religion basically have the same beliefs of the book, but different approaches and views to it. What it all boils down to is that the book was written by man, regardless. So interpretation of each verse or subject matter varies with each person. That's when it boils down to common sense and reality.
Lamar, OMG! I think you have read my mind, Moody and I were gearing up to discuss this on one of our shows....You took my whole intro to the topic....lol .....I have been saying this for years...."Do we practice our Religion because we searched and found what fits us or is it based upon tradition"? I think that we have been taught what to think and believe in and most people dont search to find God. The saying is "people look for God and find religion". I do believe that God wants us to seek him further and stop being so religious and predjudice...I believe all religions and faiths have some truth in them. But we are so predjudice, we wont allow ourselves to think outside the box....Stay tuned Lamar you are going to love the show on this topic...coming soon! Also check out this book called "The Holy Lock Down, Does the church limit black progress" By Jeremiah Camara....Peace!
Hey thank you. You sound like a sister that might have already checked out Zeitgiest, the Movie but if you have not, please do. The writer has a very interesting perspective on religion and one, after researching I have found to be very true. Check out my blog and the website is listed there, where you can actually view the entire presentation online free. Part 1 is the one on religion. Keep me posted on the show please....

Definetly, ill keep you posted on the show and ill check out the movie...i look forward to sharing notes...again thanks for joining and for starting this great discussion....!
No doubt Lamar. We right here with it. I also saw Zeitgiest and I wish it was mandatory for completion of high school. That way our kids wont be part of the LAMB following as Moody put it. A lot of common sense plays a factor, but I won't touch on that. Whatever info you have, don't hesitate to share, vice-versa.
Brother lamar! GREAT TOPIC!! I am definitely more spiritual than religious! as a matter of fact, the only religion i practice is SPIRITUALITY! lol! In my opinion, at the end of our physical existence,we are released from our shells and will be dispersed into afterlife. the way you have lived, the deeds you have done and the aura u have resonated will determine ur path into a peaceful after-existence or a hellish after-existence. So called 'religion' has killed more people than AIDS, CANCER, GANG VIOLENCE and NON-RELIGIOUS WARFARE COMBINED! Religion has allowed many a wolf to pose as a preacher and exploit the 'lamb'. Religion has become mind programming over exploration, flash over substance and condemnation over tolerance. Can a purely religious person acheive good karmic results? Of course! but he/she has to acknowledge spirituality to do so! Many religious people do the wrong things all week and then run into a building to seek forgiveness. Religion has become the new 'easy pass'..."I HAVE SINNED,BUT I GOT MY SUNDAY CHURCH EASY PASS!" Lol!! I do think there are 'religious' people who are truly devoted to their god and put aside all of the nonsense that goes on in churches today. I think THOSE people will have a peaceful afterlife! Now i DO go to a church. It has no dress code, takes no offerings, worships no man over god and has room for only ONE. That church is called my SOUL. I pray there, i get cleansed there and it is from there where i receive my daily direction. yeah....im definitely more spiritual than religious.

I agree with you on this issue. I think I am more spiritual than religious because its hard for me to agree totally in Christianity. If my ancestors were not in slave would i be a Christian or would i believe in something else. Should i really believe that there was only Adam and Eve. And there was a big boat built for a massive flood and that all animals came from far to get on this boat Its a tough pill to swallow. I think we should look at this with common sense. Educate your self on why we are here, I think there is a sigle life form that we all come from and this person goes by many names. There are many stories to lead to this all mighty. He could go by Buda, god, Christ ect''''
So let me ask this question since majority of the men are more spiritual than religious...Why are women so much more religious and accept what they grew up with and men are the complete opposite?
Lac, my personal opinion is, as women we are very emotional people, and i think that the "church" taps into those emotional senses....think about it...at church why does the organ player play right at the height of the sermon and the minister gets louder and more dramatic and the next thing you know , you are crying and feeling guilty about something..., they are tugging at your emotions....so i say b/c of the emotional connection... most men arent in tune with emotions on that level...thats just my 1 point of view, i have more...but ill chill on that note...
Hmmm..interesting Naturel. When you get a chance finish your thought. I would like to understand more.
I am more spiritual then religious.

Being raised in a family of Catholics I tend to follow what I was thought as a child. However, as an adult I can now openly listen, read and educate myself. But regardless of what has been written in the bible people (including myself) will interpret each verse in their own way.

WHAT'S BEEF: Did Chris Brown GET PISSY With Meek Mill OVER Rihanna? + Was Chris LASHING Out At Raz B For "ALLEGEDLY" Saying He's Gay?

Chris Brown is involved in a few beefs with other industry artists right now.  Get the deets on what's going on between him and Meek Mill and Raz B!

The word on the street is that Meek Mill got his verse on Chris Brown's "Don't Judge Me" dropped from the Fortune disc because Chris got pissy that Meek was hanging with Rihanna at a strip club.

Chris wasn't too pleased that Rihanna stopped by Meek Mill's party at Club Perfections last month so he bumped Meek off the disc.  Over the weekend, Meek tweeted,

We shall see how this one play's out.  But you know how pissy Chris can be......

And in other Chris beefs..........

Former B2K member Raz B has allegedly written a book called This Boy's Life.  We say allegedly because we have not been able to verify existence of the book with the publishing company or Raz B's reps.  But rumor has it that the book features explosive allegations about former B2K members (Omarion, Lil' Fizz, J Boog), Bow Wow, Ray J, Chris Stokes and Chris Brown all being gay.

On Chris the book says,

“They say you never know who knows who. Chris Brown didn’t think about that when he attacked me online. I have a friend that’s very close to Chris’ camp who told me that Chris was involved with an up and coming songwriter Andre Merritt. So when Chris started going in calling people ‘gay’ and ‘fags’ I just dropped Andre Merritt’s name. I knew it was true when he decided to shut up.”

Chris responded (his tweets were later deleted) to the alleged book saying,

If this book ever hits shelves, the fallout could be very interesting.  We'll keep you posted.

Andre 3000 FILMS Jimi Hendrix Biopic + Ne-Yo & Jamie Foxx PARTY In Las Vegas

Andre 3000 is over in Dublin filming the Jimi Hendrix biopic.  Get deets on the film and see Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx hosting a pool party in Las Vegas.

Andre Benjamin aka Andre 3000 (who celebrated his 38th birthday yesterday) began filming All Is by My Side, a Jimi Hendrix biopic, today in Dublin, Ireland.

Andre 3000 wants fans to be surprised by the film so he avoided photos so everything will be fresh when it hits the screen.

But when it hits the screen, don't expect to hear Jimi's original music.  Apparently, the estate is not on board with the biopic.  The estate released a statement saying,

"Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board have not ruled out a 'biopic' in the future though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or composition."

Andre 3000 will likely have to record covers of all Jimi songs used in the film.  But hey.....isn't that what we wanted anyway?

And in Las Vegas...........

Yesterday, Ne-Yo hosted Beach Life's Rehab Pool in the Hard Rock Hotel.

He tweeted, Chill day in my hometown Vegas, sipping @Malibu_Red at Rehab Pool. Life is good! #Compound - R.E.D 9/18/12

He also paraded around with a bevy of beauties and got the crowd hyped.

Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx was the party's other host and he also hyped the crowd.
